The first image, released last week, showed the outline of the hatchback in very low light. This second shot is better lit but zoomed in so close that it reveals little. What we can see is a grille made of serrated edges below a thick crossbar crowned with a Subaru badge.
Jewel headlights protrude away from the side of the hood. Together, the details suggest an angular design theme that can do a lot to give Subaru’s less distinctive personality.
The current Impreza has a lot to recommend it, from standard all-wheel drive to its strong resale values. But it’s lost in the crowd of compact, car-like cars. Recent redesigns from competitors like the 2022 Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra have given it a more recognizable character. It also makes the Impreza’s 152-horsepower engine sound ordinary.
A redesign could fix that, returning it to competition on our list of the best compact cars. We’re hoping to get more than one teaser to report later this week.
