Mazda is smart enough not to mess with happiness. The 2023 MX-5 is the 2022 MX-5, with a new color choice.

Prices go up a bit to factor in [gestures at world outside] You know… 2022.

The entry point, the Sport model, carries a price tag of $28,050—up from $27,650 for last year’s model.

Is this a new color option? Mineral Zircon Sand – No. Khaki.

The MX-5 uses a peppy little 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 181 horsepower and sticks to a 6-speed transmission. An automatic transmission is only available on the Advanced Land Touring model.

But the Miata has never been about power. Its charm is in its compact shape and graceful suspension. Kinetic Mode Control—the software Mazda developed to constrain body roll and keep it linear in corners—that’s what you pay for in the MX-5. That, and the feeling of throwing the soft top down with one hand at the two-second stop signal.

They’ve kept that. Not everything is aimed at progress.

Mazda also charges a mandatory $1,275 destination and handling fee ($1,320 in Alaska) on all MX-5 models.
