The auto press knows little about the Q8 e-tron and Q8 e-tron Sportback, but rumor has it that they will help streamline the automaker’s lineup as it seeks to advance all-electric ahead of most of its competitors.
Several years ago, the company released a pair of all-electric SUVs under the e-tron and e-tron Sportback names.
Since then, the e-tron name has spread through its lineup with vehicles such as the Q4 e-tron small SUV and the grand e-tron GT touring car. These cars use the name e-tron to indicate that they are electric and the rest of their names to indicate their place in the Audi lineup. This leaves the original e-tron in a slightly confusing situation.
Audi may fix that, rumors suggest, by adding the Q8 designation to the successor to the e-tron and e-tron Sportback. This could show shoppers that the cars are intended to be electrical equivalents to the brand’s flagship Q8 SUV.
The photo shows a traditional SUV body and a sportier, sportier coupe-style model that replaces some cargo space for additional style points.
A video posted to Audi’s Facebook page sets the reveal date for November 9. We’ll come up with more details when they come.
