Analysis of a Pertinent Healthcare Issue
Without practical solutions being implemented by leaders, the healthcare system in the United States is facing severe problems or pressures that could have a detrimental impact on treatment outcomes. Healthcare organizations that are required to offer safe and high-quality care are put in an uncertain situation and at risk because of the challenges. Hospitals and other medical facilities should increase overall efficiency despite these problems. Additionally, to solve issues and raise standards, organizational leaders should create and apply realistic leadership strategies (Marshall & Broome, 2017). Although there are numerous challenges or stressors that leaders in the healthcare industry must deal with, burnout is one of the most critical issues that is directly tied to turnover and should be addressed by leaders through a strong health and wellness program.
Nursing staff burnout
Nurses are the ones in the medical field who face the most stress and burnout. Burnout is an extreme case of mental weariness brought on by stress at work. Because of the nature of their employment, nurses experience the highest amount of burnout. They frequently interact with patients suffering from severe illnesses and other complicated requirements, such as mental problems. Additionally, the demand for their services is growing due to their work environment (de Paiva, Canário, de Paiva China, & Gonçalves, 2017). Because patient expectations are becoming more complex and nurse-patient ratios are rising, nursing practitioners are becoming increasingly burned out. According to organizational data, 36 nurses have left their jobs due to weariness since 2016. The emergency department has been most negatively impacted. Additionally, the research shows that more than 60% of the surviving nurses claim to be quite worn out due to the demands of their jobs (de Paiva et al., 2017). Burnout is a severe issue in the hospital that primarily affects the nurses.
